Overview
Aung Ko
Biography
Born in 1980 in Htone Bo, Myanmar, Aung Ko studied painting at the Yangon University of Culture.
Aung Ko’s work is fully community centered. His performances and installations are linked to the village and its people not only thematically, but also through the production and participation of the village itself.
In Aung Ko’s works emerge ideas about geography, stories and traditions. His works trace the place and time through the gesture and the relic. His art recalls the transience, hope and illusion of existence.
His creations are not pictorial replicas of a window on rural Burma. Rather distilled from their images, rituals and rhythms combined with each other build extravagant stories. They tell the art and indirectly interrogate the system and values that dominate the country today.
